Vintage Postcard Wedding invitations

My friends B and George are getting married in a few months. They wanted a vintage postcard for their invitation. B’s sister, Chloe, took the lovely photographs. Vintage stamps, postage elements and brown paper envelopes make for a whimsical, romantic invitation. They were printed on Reviva 200gsm in Natural at Hot Ink and I love how they turned out.

Chili Cashew salad

Last night I made the most delicious salad. It was filled with the flavour sof Thailand (only the good ones - you’ll know what I mean if you’ve been there…on a hot day). We had it with steak that had been grilled and marinated in 5 spice seasoning and sesame oil. But you could add chicken, prawns or steak pieces to this and it would be wonderful.

I thought I’d share it with you.

Salad:

1 small bag of mixed leaf lettuce

1/4 cucumber sliced finely on a mandolin

1/2 red onion sliced finely on a mandolin

1/2 small packet coleslaw

a handfull of sugar snap peas

1 handfull of mint leaves finely chopped

Lay these all out on a large plater. I usually put the lettuce first.

Chili cashews:

1 small packet of cashews

1 tsp chili powder

pinch of salt

Toast these in a pan on the stove until golden and glistening. Shake chili powder and salt all over them. Then take off the heat and transfer to a plate to cool.

Dressing:

1 small lime (juice and rind)

2 tablespoons coconut oil

1 garlic clove

1 teaspoon of fresh ginger that has been grated

1 tablespoon honey

1 tablespoon soya sauce

1 tablespoon sesame oil

Mix all of these together and pour over salad. Sprinkle with cashews and a few sesame seeds.

Happy carb-free eating!

I’m planning a little MBA widow trip to Stockholm & Paris in June with one of my best friends. I have a rule against wearing trainers with casual clothes. Trainers are for gym, or a walk, or a run.  I have (on previous) holidays suffered from under foot blisters, calf spasms and swollen feet from walking far distances (the whole of Disney World) in slops or pumps.
Luckily for me I came across these silver, studded Superga beauties!
I’m excited at the prospect of a blister free holiday and one where I won’t look like an American Tourist. Style and comfort - get on my feet already!

I’ve been juicing up a storm over the past 3 days! Here are some of my favorite combos:
Beetroot + strawberry + red apple + ginger + carrot + parsley
Orange + red apple + carrot + strawberry + mint
Green apple + spinach leaves + mint
Yellow apple + carrot + orange + nectarine

Although juicing is extremely good for you, I’ve felt very tired and drained today. It’s probably because I’ve also given up sugar and caffeine all at the same time. So cheers to me for sticking to this 3 days in and may I stick to the next 2 weeks!

I’ve been thinking about presents recently. I’ve concluded that none of us deserve any gift, but we give them at Christmas for no reason at all other than to remind ourselves of our undeserved state and to bless. A symbol of grace and hope. The very essence of Christmas and the reason we celebrate.

My husbands family give list for present ideas each Christmas and birthday. I used to think that this defated the point of Christmas, but the truth is that I’m going to give them all gifts anyway, why not make sure they really want/need what we give them. That’s how I see it anyway. A practical nugget of inside info into the different minds that make up our lovely family.

I sent my list out last week and shocked myself with the realization that I have 3 books on it! Okay, they are all cookbooks but still. Here it is:

Kez’s gift ideas for 2012 Christmas:

  • Jamie Oliver “15 minute meals”
  • Donna Hay “Fast, fresh simple”
  • Claire Robinson “5 ingredient fix”
  • Pasta roller
  • Mastrad microwave crisp maker
  • scarves
  • laptop sleeve

Every single Friday we have burger for dinner. We figure that if they are good enough for Warren Buffet then they are good enough for us. Although they are usually different, I like to keep a one thing the same every time - the patties must always be home-made. They can be beef, vegetarian or chicken but no bought patty is allowed in my Friday burger bun.

Recently I’ve been stuck in a bit of burger rut. With chicken fillet burgers (cheese, tomato, caramelized onions, lettuce and mayo) on duty for the past 3 Fridays I think I need some help. Maybe I have burger-block, maybe I’ve just been to busy, but what I do know is that one more chicken fillet burger is going to send my husband running to Mac D’s (I’m pretty sure he won’t be kicking or screaming either.)

So as all excellent wives do, I turned to Pintrest for a bit of help. I am officially burger-spired.

I’ve been dying to cut a fringe again. After spending a year growing it out, dying my locks ombre, going back to blonde and feeling that my hair is just very vanilla, white bread…you know. My plan to restore glory to my crown seems to be leaning towards a messy fringe a la Birgitte Bardot. I am in love with her messy blonde bangs and tousled tresses.

My sweet floral pants. People either love them or detest them. There are usually no middle-of-the-road opinions. I spotted these babies (lets face it, who could miss them) in a bustling H&M in Hong Kong last December. Much to my husbands dismay I purchased them and have been parading around in them ever since.

I found a few other fashionable blogger lasses wearing these floral delights and I feel a sense of sisterhood solidarity. So here they are, a small tribute to my favorite pair of floral pants! May your floral trendiness not be as short lived as the forecasters say.

This weekend I discovered Typo. DANGEROUS SHOP. My heart.

I have a bit of an obsession with eye masks. Not sure why, but despite the fact they they are never still over my eyes by the time I awake in the morning (no, it’s not a Sleeping Beauty production…more like the wolf in Little red riding hood), and they never leave me looking younger than when I went to sleep, these peeper covers seem to shower my sleepy self with promises of less puff. Anyway, lets cut this story short…I found this sweet, leopard print eye mask (complete with tiny ears).

Typo is completely amazing. It’s filled with the kind of stuff that stationary freaks like myself only dream of. 3 walls of gift cards in hundreds of different inks, foils, shapes…even puzzle cards and ones with 3D glasses! They also have kitschy kitchen clutter like lumo teacups, tinned baking kits and heart shaped ice-cube trays.

Excited that I finally have a) another “good” shop to add to my Canal walk list of small triumphs and b) more birthday present options!

So if you receive a ruler that keeps expanding or a gold skull jar wrapped in paper that’s printed like a map and tied in ribbon that has cm increments printed on it, it’s safe to assume that it’s all from Typo.

Beware present junkies…this shop should come with a health warning.

A little article on my struggle with a jersey and what it represented.
